Exploring area
Primary two really got their thinking caps on this week!! They began by comparing the area of two pieces of paper. Ryan noticed that it would take two orange pages to make the green one. Mrs Nugent showed the children how to find out the amount of cubes needed to cover all of the paper. It was easy to total because one side of the paper measured ten cubes. Ruairi did a super job of counting in tens up to 150. Emma went on to figure out it would take 300 cubes to cover the green page. Olly was interested in seeing how the big rectangle could be folded to make a smaller rectangle and many of the children predicted that if it was folded again it would make a square. So we decided to find out, this led us onto experimenting with other shapes to find out what happens them when they are folded in half a number of times.
